We are following up on our Coronavirus notes because more information and understanding of the COVID-19 virus has become available. This has allowed us to expand and fine tune our defensive effort and preparation.
The Coronavirus has been here before in different forms. This new strain is called the COVID-19 strain. You may remember the SARS and MERS strains from a few years back. Because of these past strains, there are many clinical studies on the Coronavirus virus, in general. This helps to give us some foundation as we research the new COVID-19 strain.
It also helps us understand natural nutrients can be very helpful against the virus. There are plenty of people advising how to hide from it. But, if it spreads as we expect, we think it makes even more sense to make sure our bodies have what it needs to be at its peak ability against a threat.
Note: Nothing within here is considered a cure! We are sharing the research and historical experiences of many people and what we, ourselves, are doing to better prepare for the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Our best friend in this situation is our own immune system (even a vaccine or treatment relies on our immune system to be effective.)
We wish you and your loved ones the best of health!
Coronavirus Defensive Update
The good news is that we have been able to expand what we believe will help us in fighting the Coronavirus.
Also, many authorities are now saying up to 80% of infected people have only mild symptoms and their numbers have not been recorded. This, along with better ways of fighting the virus, may put the final fatality rate closer to 1% than current rates reported.
However, it is in an effort to help the serious cases, or in helping prevent serious symptoms from even developing, that we share the following considerations.
- Monolaurin for the internal
- Zinc Lozenges for the mouth.
- Colloidal Silver vapor for the lungs.
- Extra Immune Boosting
Monolaurin, zinc lozenges (and the often mentioned soap use) are directed more towards helping prevention. Colloidal Silver is directed towards if the virus makes an inroad into your body.
1. In the Body
The main Coronavirus attack is towards the lungs. So, why do we mention monolaurin for the general body?
Monolaurin has been the single most effective natural flu preventative we have seen for decades! All influenza viruses (and bad bacteria) have lipid fats in their outer membranes (envelope). Monolaurin absorbs into these membranes, weakens the membrane until it ruptures – and they die.
What this means is now our immune system doesn’t have to fight pathogens in the body. It can bring its full strength to fight the Coronavirus in the lungs.
Note 1: Different flu strains have different amounts of lipid fats in them. The more lipid fats, the more effective monolaurin is. Studies show the Coronavirus is very active with lipid fats. So, though it is early, we have a lot of confidence in monolaurin’s effectiveness in preparing the body for a potential viral attack.
Note 2: Earlier is Better! If monolaurin is already doing its job against pathogens in your body, it is much easier for your immune system to focus its full strength at the very beginning against a virus. It makes it easier to kill a smaller amount of virus, rather than letting the virus multiply, now playing catch-up against millions of virus.
People typically use 1 scoop (tsp.) a day during general flu season, 2 scoops (1 with breakfast, 1 with dinner), if being potentially exposed to a virus.
2. In the Mouth
There is a reason everyone is telling people to wash their hands often. Regular detergent soap (anti-bacterial is not essential) actually does a good job of killing the virus as well as removing it from your hands. The lipid fat activity of the virus makes it so flimsy that regular detergent soap dissolves much of the virus envelopes mentioned above.
However, it is hard to wash a hundred times a day. Your hands get around. It is also pretty hard to remember not to touch your face or eyes. As a result, your mouth (and nose and eyes) is the most common entry point of Coronavirus into your body.
One of the simplest ways to help defend against this and lower the mouth entry infection possibility is to use zinc lozenges.
Zinc is pretty effective in killing viruses and bacteria. However, zinc can be overdosed in the body! So, it is better to use low dosage zinc lozenges several times a day rather than 1 or 2 big doses a day! Look for lozenges with 5-10 mg. in them. This allows you to use them several times a day – and keep your total zinc dosage lower than 40 mg. a day for the duration of Coronavirus exposure.
Consider them during the times you may have to be in public places (store, essential work, etc.). Or when handling commonly touched items and no wipes or hand washing is available.
3. In the Lungs – (Colloidal Silver, with a Nebulizer)
This is the Coronavirus’ main attack area – and where we want to prevent it from becoming serious. Monolaurin goes only as far as the blood can take it, so it doesn’t reach the air (breathing) side of the lungs (or sinuses). Instead, we use pure colloidal silver in a vapor or mist form.
A Little History
As many people know, silver has been used for thousands of years to kill bacteria, virus and other pathogens. Of course, they didn’t know about pathogens then, just that silver helped a lot of sick people get better.
Silver coins were put in milk containers and in water barrels on wagon trains to keep it fresh longer. It was a big infection healer in wars until anti-biotics came along. Now silver is making a comeback as we run into superbugs! Silver in liquid form is usually called “colloidal” silver, but there are actually 2 forms:
Ionic silver – the majority of the solution is positively charged silver ions suspended in purified water. The silver atoms have lost one or more of its electrons and now carries a positive charge (referred to as Ag+).
Colloidal silver – is very small nano-sized particles of silver suspended in purified water. The majority of the solution is non-ionic, pure silver metal and pure water, nothing more.
Which form is better? Any “colloidal” silver will help. There are studies and claims for both forms as “better” but both are effective. Either way, in lay terms, it is understood that:
- Bacteria – in the presence of nano-sized silver particles and ions – will become suffocated and die through a chemical process called “Catalytic Oxidation”.
- Viruses – lose electrons it needs to survive from proteins and enzymes. They die from disabling these associated components required for the survival of a virus.
Is Breathing Nebulized Silver Safe?
Make Sure You Read These Two Paragraphs!
There are very few studies on this subject – and no double-blind clinical studies! We simply don’t know how long term usage affects the body. Even doctors who use colloidal silver recommended further studies are needed to reveal effects after deposition and cell interactions.
Some studies of long-term inhalation of silver into the lungs by rats showed it could lead to accumulation of silver in the soft tissues of the lungs, as well as inflammation, reduced lung function and other problems. This indicates silver particles, when inhaled regularly, over long periods of time, can become embedded in the soft tissues of the lungs and cause a decrease in lung function. (Long term is months to years. Short term is 1-3 weeks.)
Back in 2001, the prestigious Health Sciences Institute said nebulizing colloidal silver directly into the lungs was one of the fastest ways of eliminating serious upper respiratory infections – including bronchitis and pneumonia!
Dr. Marcial-Vega, formally professor at the Miami School of Medicine, said he used colloidal silver nebulizer treatments on patients of all ages with pneumonia and they responded quickly to the treatment. Even better, colloidal silver had no toxicity and no side effects. No one reported any adverse reactions.
More recently, a lab study published in Particle and Fibre Toxicology found that when the human lung is exposed to silver nanoparticles, it does not cause adverse effects. Lung cells were only partially sensitive to high silver-ion concentrations. A study by Dr. Herzog and colleagues indicated that colloidal silver does not cause adverse effects and cells were only sensitive to (again) high Ag-ion concentrations.
The most effective way to use it – simply breathe it into your lungs! He said the silver directly contacts the pathogens residing in the lungs, which are causing bronchitis or pneumonia.

What This Means to Us
There are many opinions about using colloidal silver. We believe there is a balance. We don’t use silver internally (via drinking), monolaurin is far safer. We do use it in some skin applications. We also use it short term for sinus, throat and lung issues. (Long term is months to years. Short term is 1-3 weeks.)
Equipment and Use
We feel ultrasonic nebulizers are best. We are happy with the relatively inexpensive:
- North American, Breathe Ultrasonic Atomizer
- Philips, Respironics Innospire Elegance
- Omron (a little more expensive but a good manufacturer)
These, and other brands, can be found on Amazon (search “ultrasonic nebulizers”) or at: justnebulizers.com. or easycomforts.com.
Use: We put 5 cc (1 teaspoon) of colloidal silver in the receptacle.
Find a comfortable place, turn on the machine and breathe normally for approximately 15 minutes or until all the liquid is gone. We repeat this for 2-3x a day for colds, pneumonias, bronchitis, sinusitis, etc. These units turn on and off so, if interrupted, just resume when you are able to.
We do not use this for prevention – only when symptoms have started. The Coronavirus can progress to serious levels much quicker then normal flu. Therefore, if you do not see improvement fairly quickly, or at anytime you feel necessary, please seek your doctor’s medical advice.
4. Immune System Nutrients
The above steps deal directly with the Coronavirus. However, our own body’s immune system can also do wonders. For those interested, these are often mentioned nutrients and how they are said to help our immune system and T-cells work better. (Many consider those in BOLD to be the highest priority.)
Vitamin D – activates and increases antibody response to a range of pathogens.
Zinc – stimulates the immune system by increasing the effectiveness of T-cells (not needed if already taking in the form of zinc lozenges).
Vitamin B6 – enhances the maturation and differentiation of lymphocytes into infection fighting B and T-cells.
Vitamin C – boosts the immune system by supporting antibody production – especially reducing congestion and the constriction of bronchi that leads to asthmatic symptoms.
Vitamin A – maintains the integrity of the mucosa lining of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract to reduce the incidence of infection.
Vitamin B1 thiamin, B2 riboflavin, B9 Folic acid are particularly important to the proper functioning of T-cells and their quantity.
Vitamin B9 (Folate/folic acid) – is important to the proper functioning of T-cells and their quantity.
Vitamin E – a powerful antioxidant that helps your body fight off infection.
Green Tea – a component of green tea, a polyphenol called EGCG, naturally increases regulatory t-cells.
Garlic and Ginseng – are other herbal supplements that may help to boost T-cell production and support the immune system include.
